Abstract

This project presents EZ COMMS, a mobile application for children with non-verbal ASD level 2 or 3, with the purpose of creating an alternative and augmentative communication system for the development and evolution of the child's communication processes. For a child with nonverbal ASD, it is essential to have alternative means to receive information from their environment through visual, auditory or mixed media. This application is based on the use of pictograms in an easy, intuitive and comfortable way. In addition, it has the option to translate from text to speech to facilitate communication. Finally, it has incorporated a set of categorized questionnaires to test the child's ability to interpret and recognize the pictograms, with the option of saving their results and having a database of their progress, which makes it an ideal tool for the specialist collects and analyzes the child's results. EZ COMMZ has been evaluated by a group of specialists who show that the application can be useful for the collection of real and reliable data, for the analysis of the behavior of children with ASD.
