Abstract

One of the most common problems for people with visual impairment (PwDV) is the inability to move independently and autonomously. White canes are used to help mobility, but they have limitations such as low range to detect obstacles, and the inability to detect obstacles at the level of the person's trunk. This is why we have improved it through the design of a prototype, with the aim of making it accessible and practical for navigation and orientation of PwDV, specifically for indoor use. For the elaboration of the prototype, we used the Arduino Uno ATmega328, as well as different electronic sensors that contributed in the displacement of the PwDV. The tests were performed with a group of experts and the preliminary results indicate that the Indoor Navigation Stick is a functional prototype for mobility and orientation in indoor spaces for people with visual impairment, so it can be concluded that its use will contribute to social inclusion and accessibility opportunities.
