PROPOSAL OF A LEAST SQUARES MODEL THAT ESTIMATES THE EFFECT OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE AGREEMENTS ON THE EMPLOYED ECONOMICALLY ACTIVE POPULATION

Abstract

The research carried out presents the relationship between the behavior of the commercial exchange of Panama with Trade Agreements, as an independent variable, and its relationship with the Economically Active Employed Population (PEAO), as a dependent variable. The development of the research focuses on describing, through statistical inference, applying the method of least squares, resulting in the regression equation that allows predicting the behavior of the dependent variable. In this sense, the research with a quantitative approach takes into consideration, data of the variables, from secondary sources, obtained from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), from the year 1999 to the year 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19, so as not to have its own distortions in the figures, product of the natural restrictions caused by it since 2020. The manipulation of the data and the calculations obtained, allowed us to conclude, the existence of a correlation of 91.8% between both variables and the regression equation of both methods, where the effect of the independent variable on the dependent one is evaluated to make forecasts.
