Abstract

To describe the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in universitary students from the UTP and UDELAS universities. This was a non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective, and multicenter study with a single application. Undergraduate universitary students aged 18 years or older from the UDELAS Headquarters and the UTP´s Víctor Levi Sasso Central Campus were selected from those enrolled in the first academic semester 2022. The Epi Info program version 7.2 was used for the calculation of the sample (376 students), using a universe of 18,684 students (4,551 students from UDELAS and 14,133 students from the UTP), with a confidence interval of 95% The data collection tools used were a survey and different measurements (anthropometric, blood pressure and biochemical  (capillary blood glucose and fasting lipid profile)). The cardiovascular risk factors found in this group of universitary students were heterogeneous. While smoking has a low proportion in comparison to world media (9.4%), a diet with little amount of fruits and vegetables was common in 80% of the study group. Overweight was found in 29.2% of the students and within the evaluations of biochemical parameters it was highlighted that 37.6% of them have LDL levels above the optimal value.
