Abstract

The management of oily residues is a global concern, its represent abundant amount of polluted residues, for this reason its recycle is the best option for these waste. The goal of this investigation is characterize the oily residues from vehicles, in order to evaluate its potential as energy resource, in the Dominican Republic. The samples were collected with stratified random sampling, physical and chemical parameters was analized with international standards: density (ASTM-D95-3), humidity percentage at 15 ºC (ASTM-D1298-12b), calorific value (ASTM-D4809-13), heavy metals (ASTM-D-5185), clorox (MESA-7220), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s). As result of  the characterization, it is possible use it as recyclable materials, it can be considered a valuable oil , because we didn’t find a significant amount of: Mercury, tin, lead, chromium, and cadmium. The amount of metals that we found are under the limit allowed on the national law. The evaluation of the oil waste with recycle proposes, can contribute to reduce inadequate management, in consequence reduce the pollution of soils and water. Some of metals found are consequence of use of additives and refrigerants, introduced to improve the efficient of the oils.
