Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the influence of motivational workshops on levels of depression in a group of adolescents at social risk, determining if this influence achieves or does not reduce the possible levels of depression in the mentioned group through a type of correlational study with a quasi-experimental design with a cross-type measurement. The sample of the research corresponds to 18 adolescents of female gender, who are assisted in a foundation located in the city of Panama and that houses children and adolescents in conditions of social risk. A pre-test was carried out using the Beck Depression Inventory, which aims to measure or identify the severity of a depression, followed by the intervention in two consecutive weeks, implementing a program of workshops with different activities and contents, After completing the workshops, the post test was applied to record changes in the dependent variable. The results obtained during the pretest, considering the cut points offered by the Beck Depression Inventory, place a significant amount of the sample with depression levels between severe and moderate and a small amount with minimal depression; in contrast to the results obtained in the post test, where it is observed that the number of adolescents with severe and moderate depression decreases significantly, the majority of the group being placed in the levels of mild depression and minimal depression.
