Abstract

The context of Parkinson's disease in Panama is worrying, seen as a collective health problem that predisposes to other pathological conditions. Reason why it is timely to analyze the prevalence of Parkinson's disease in adults in Panama (a systematic review) and more precisely measure the problem, seeking the adoption of necessary corrective measures. This review was based on a research carried out on February 9, 2025 with all the articles published in the National Library of Medicine (PUBMED); Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Google Scholar, according to the keywords obtained from the health sciences descriptors of the VHL. In PUBMED the research was carried out with the descriptors: Parkinson + Panama + Adults, in all fields and in the VHL it was by title, abstract and subject using the same descriptors. After performing a filter associated with reading titles, 1,638 articles were selected for reading the abstract. At this stage, articles that were not directly related to Parkinson's disease or that did not carry out studies with the adult population were excluded. At the end of the selection process, 2 articles remained. Parkinson's disease has an estimated prevalence according to official entities between 3% and 5%, representing a collective health problem, associated with multiple factors, among which it is appropriate to mention genetic, environmental, aging, lifestyle and neurobiological factors that contribute to the problem.
