PERCEPTION OF GRIEF OVER THE LOSS OF A DOG AS A PET IN YOUNG ADULTS IN PANAMA CITY, DURING JANUARY TO SEPTEMBER 2021

Abstract

The research presented below deals with grief over the loss of a dog as a pet. Grief is a natural reaction to the loss of a significant being, therefore, young adults are not exempt from suffering and experiencing emotional reactions to this loss. The main objective of this research was to describe the perception of mourning for the loss of a pet dog in young adults in Panama City, from January to September 2021. The methodology used was a cross-sectional descriptive design, where the population was made up of individuals between the ages of 18 and 35, female and male. The instruments used to collect the data were the surveys of the pet grief questionnaire, the questionnaire of attachment to the pet and the application of two surveys in to obtain sociodemographic data of the owner and the pet. This research approached the subject from different concepts and included theoretical models associated with mourning for pets. The results found showed that, according to the perception of the respondents, 100% mourned this loss, varying in intensity.
