Abstract

The primary goal of this study was to describe the perception that caregivers of people with ASD have regarding the support they receive to improve their quality of life. A non-probabilistic sample of 163 caregivers of people with ASD, entered the website and completed a survey about perceptions about major needs of caregivers of people with ASD.  The study tried to identify in the sample the sources of supports, caregivers’ needs related to social support and quality of life, and satisfaction and importance of support for the caregivers’ quality of life.  Regarding the results, the majority of caregivers expressed they are not receiving any help (N = 114) or belong to any institution or organization who support them in the management of their needs. Some of them are also very satisfied and perceived as something important the support they receive from family, school, and friends. Also, having a good relationship with professionals is perceived as important.
